“Investing in very young adolescents’ SRH” hits Routledge’s top 18 public health articles for 2014

Why_Invest_in_VYA_SRH_IRH_Infographic_largeInvesting in very young adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health,” published in Global Public Health May 2014, ranked among Routledge’s top 18 most read articles in public health last year.

Authored by Susan M. Igras, Marjorie Macieira, Elaine Murphy, and IRH’s Rebecka Lundgren, the article advocates for investments in very young adolescents (VYA) (ages 10-14), a group that is often overlooked despite making up about half of the 1.2 billion adolescent population in the world today. Since early adolescence marks a critical transition period — setting the stage for future sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gendered attitudes and behaviors — targeted investment in VYAs is imperative to lay foundations for healthy future relationships and positive SRH. This article identifies roles that policy-makers, donors, program designers and researchers and evaluators can play.

In addition to this article, you can access the top Routledge articles from a selection of subjects across the health and social care for free until June 30, 2015.
