Strengthening Quality HIV/AIDS Counseling: Training course for HIV/AIDS Voluntary Counseling and Testing Service Providers

This training manual was developed as part of a strategy for strengthening the competencies of health care providers who do Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) for HIV. This strategy, designed by the Institute for Reproductive Health at Georgetown University, was implemented within the Program for Preventing HIV/AIDS in Central America and Mexico framework, directed by Population Services International (PSI) and its affiliate PASMO.

Selecting topics for this manual was based on needs assessments carried out in several Central American countries. This needs assessment included a base line, quality evaluation through “mystery client” methodology, and consultations with health care providers, CSW, and MSM using the PDQ Process (Partnership Defined Quality).
