Up Efforts
As the SDM moves from small-scale projects to
state or national-level initiatives, additional
research is being conducted to assess the feasibility
and acceptability of method introduction on a
large scale.
Impact studies in India, Rwanda and Peru will
test the effects of scaling up interventions to
include the SDM in service delivery systems. Specifically,
these studies will examine the effect of SDM integration
on contraceptive prevalence, method mix and provider
behavior.
Currently, new research is underway to investigate
new service delivery strategies such as social
marketing the SDM and comparing cost-effectiveness
of different options to help women track the menstrual
cycle.
