SDM Service Implementation Guidelines

The SDM Implementation Guidelines for Program Personnel were designed to help program personnel plan for and integrate the Standard Days Method® (SDM) into their services. Available as a downloadable file (344k PDF document) or an online handbook, it includes information about:

  • Establishing Norms and Guidelines
  • Training Providers
  • Counseling Clients
  • IEC and informed choice
  • Assuring Quality of Services
  • Procurement and Logistics for CycleBeads
  • Other Service Delivery Issues

These guidelines are based on the experience of more than 20 international and local organizations that successfully introduced the method into their countries’ family planning programs. The SDM has been introduced into diverse programmatic settings, including clinic- and community-based programs, ministries of health, NGOs providing family planning services, as well as community development organizations. The method is being used by women and men with a wide variety of religious, cultural, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.
