
Tanzania– Overview of Country Activities:
The Institute’s work with the Zanzibar
Nurses Association (ZANA) that began in 2003 resulted
in the incorporation of the Standard Days Method
(SDM) in the services of 21 public health facilities
on the islands of Unguja and Pemba. These services
include the two ZANA offices in Zanzibar and Chake
Chake, 18 Ministry of Health (MOH) facilities
and one Marie Stopes clinic, covering four urban
and 17 rural areas. To date, there are 657 SDM
users.

Country Updates
The Institute will continue to provide assistance
to ZANA as it seeks to scale up access to the
SDM and become a resource NGO on a national level.
The USAID mission has expressed interest in supporting
ZANA’s efforts to scale up reproductive
health services.
