Madagascar– Overview of Country Activities:
The Institute for Reproductive Health is working
as a subcontractor for Chemonics to provide training
and technical assistance on the Standard Days
Method (SDM) to the SanteNet project. This pilot
effort seeks to expand the methods available by
offering the SDM in two provinces. The Institute
conducted a training of trainers in December 2004.
These trainers, in turn, trained providers in
25 pilot sites who are now offering the SDM to
their clients. To raise awareness about the method,
partners within the SanteNet network also trained
community mobilizers.

Country Updates
Service statistics from the pilot sites indicate
that the SDM is well accepted among the Malagasy
population with SanteNet reporting over 300 users.
The Institute and Chemonics plan to conduct an
evaluation of the pilot study in six months. Based
on the positive results thus far, Chemonics and
partners hope to scale-up SDM integration nationally.
