Kyrgyzstan – Overview of Country Activities:

In collaboration with the Government of Kyrgyzstan, Project Hope is introducing the Standard Days Method (SDM) as a way to encourage birth-spacing, improve maternal and child health, and help meet the contraceptive needs of its diverse population. This collaboration includes monitoring and documenting method introduction, submitting articles to journals on the experience, presenting findings at a national conference, and encouraging the inclusion of CycleBeads in the government’s list of essential contraceptive commodities.

Twenty teams of government providers will offer the SDM to interested clients in accordance with their family planning counseling protocol as part of a pilot introduction in government outpatient clinics. Project HOPE adapted and translated SDM training materials, provider and client tools, IEC/BCC materials, and supervision and monitoring tools. The Institute will continue to provide long-distance technical assistance. Project HOPE and the government anticipate successful results and expect to scale-up SDM integration.
