Haiti– Overview of Country Activities:
At the request of the USAID Mission, the Institute
for Reproductive Health visited Haiti in January
2005 to explore the possibility of introducing
the Standard Days Method (SDM) as another family
planning option in the country and build partnerships
with the Ministry of Health (MOH), USAID/Haiti,
and local organizations. Due to interest in the
SDM, USAID, in collaboration with the MOH, decided
to implement the SDM program. Management Sciences
for Health (MSH) and the Haitian Health Foundation
(HHF) were selected to handle all SDM implementation
activities, including IEC, training, and dissemination
efforts. MSH oversees the supply and distribution
of CycleBeads and the adaptation of materials
to local contexts.

In April 2005, the Institute trained 141 key trainers
and service providers mostly from the Ministry
of Health, MSH, and HHF partner organizations,
including church clinics, nonprofit organizations,
and private clinics. To date, the SDM has been
introduced in three departments.
