Angola – Overview of Country Activities:
To expand family planning choice, Advance Africa
and the Institute for Reproductive Health collaborated
to introduce the Standard Days Method (SDM) into
13 health centers in Huambo province. In 18 months
Advance Africa trained 540 midwives, 120 nurses
and 230 community health workers to provide the
method. IEC and provider materials were adapted
and translated into Portuguese. Over 460 clients
chose the SDM as their method of family planning.

Country Update
Since the closing of the Advance Africa project,
the Institute is in communication with Advance
Angola, a local NGO, to pursue expansion of SDM
activities. The Institute will also look for opportunities
to continue SDM work within the new Extending
Services Delivery Project, which has identified
Angola as a focus country.
