Overview
TwoDay Method® (TDM) services are being provided in the United States, Peru, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. The method is being introduced into regular family planning services in select countries as part of a study that will assess the feasibility and demand of the method.
Why offer TDM?
TDM appeals to women who want to use a hormone-free method but do not have cycles regular enough to be able to use the Standard Days Method® (SDM). TDM was developed for women interested in a natural approach that relies on their body's signs and symptoms of fertility. Days considered fertile by TDM are identified based on physiological events of each individual woman and are specific for that cycle. As with most natural methods, TDM empowers women by helping them learn about their fertility. This family planning method is an important addition to the method mix that could help many couples prevent as well as plan a pregnancy.
IRH research shows that women are finding TDM easy to use since the method only requires that they check the presence or absence of secretions, regardless of characteristics. This is having important implications for effectiveness (ease of use increases correct use and thus real effectiveness) and for programmatic feasibility, as the method requires less training for providers and less time to teach it to clients.
