CycleBeads®, the visual tool used to facilitate use of the Standard Days Method® (SDM), are distributed by the manufacturer, Cycle Technologies. Individuals and programs can order CycleBeads online at www.cyclebeads.com or at select retail outlets in the United States. Pricing for CycleBeads varies by quantity ordered and by packaging specifications. USAID-funded programs have the option of ordering CycleBeads through USAID | DELIVER Project (see below for more details).

Typically, CycleBeads are packaged with a standard instructional insert (in English, French, and Spanish) to guide correct use of the method, a calendar, and an extra rubber ring. IRH has developed several versions of the insert that can accompany CycleBeads, including a 3-language insert (includes English, French, and Spanish), an insert appropriate for faith-based audiences, and lower-literacy inserts for different regions of the world. For USAID Programs:

As of January 2009, CycleBeads are on the list of contraceptives and condoms that are available through the USAID Central Contraceptive Procurement Project (CCP). USAID missions can now order CycleBeads through the CCP system, just as other contraceptives and condoms are procured. Missions must fund these orders with their field support monies.

Through this ordering mechanism, CycleBeads can only be ordered in case lot quantities of 500 sets. The unit cost is $1.20, which includes one CycleBeads set, a multi-language insert (English, French, and Spanish), an extra rubber-ring, and a four-year calendar also available in English, French, or Spanish. Please note that this procurement option is intended to facilitate access to CycleBeads.

CycleBeads Procurement Toolkit

A toolkit to facilitate ordering CycleBeads was developed by the USAID | DELIVER PROJECT, Cycle Technologies, and Georgetown University's Institute for Reproductive Health. The toolkit includes the following:

1. Potential Market for CycleBeads: A Basic Model for Estimating Demand
   This document presents program managers with a model to forecast an initial supply of CycleBeads in their country or region over a five year period. The document provides instructions for completing the Excel worksheet (below) that calculates an estimated CycleBeads order based on potential demand. The last page of this document is an example of a completed worksheet for reference.

2. Estimated Demand per Year of CycleBeads Over a Five Year Period
   By using the instructions in the "Potential Market for CycleBeads: A Basic Model for Estimating Demand" document, a program manager can use this Excel worksheet to calculate an estimated CycleBeads order for their country or region. The equations needed for calculations are programmed into the document - thus, it is best to use the electronic version of this worksheet.

3. Public Health Commodity Order Form (ASC Template)
   Once forecasting the necessary CycleBeads order for a country, USAID missions are to include their request on this form, as they would with other contraceptives, and submit it to their CSL country backstop. If you need an electronic copy of this form, please contact your CSL country backstop.
